The vehicle entry to Stapleton Road from Tooting High Street has a number of problems associated with it. Firstly, drivers have to watch out for walkers stopping on the road, because it looks like a pedestrianised area. For example, there have been instances where cars abruptly stop on the bike lane on Tooting High Street, as mothers with baby strollers stop on Stapleton Road.
Secondly, the bollards are low and not obvious to drivers, causing many accidents and damages to cars. At some point in the future a driver will cause an injury to pedestrians as they urgently try to avoid the bollards.
Finally, the risk to cyclists using the bike lane are obvious, as drivers navigate the stressful entry to Stapleton Road.
We therefore urgently request Wandsworth Council to address the situation by making clear that the entry to Stapleton Road is not pedestrianised. In addition, the bollards need to be replaced with safer alternatives.
