Reinstate the Ritherdon Road Left-Hand Turn!

The Ritherdon Road Left-Hand Turn should be reinstated and with no more delays.

There has been silence from local Labour representatives for the last four years. Local Conservatives delivered for residents by securing the return of the Ritherdon Road Left-Hand Turn. This was on track prior to the local elections in 2022, however, it continues to face delays.

Stopping drivers turning left into Ritherdon Road has caused various problems for local residents. It has pushed traffic onto other local roads that are less able to cope, such as Streathbourne Road, and often required drivers to make longer journeys along local streets to get to where they need to go. This has increased safety risks and very likely added to local air pollution.

Through the use of technology installed at the junction it is possible to maintain cyclists safety whilst improving traffic flow and supporting the overall improvement of air quality in the local community.

I never understood why this left-hand turn restriction was there in the first place. It makes our journeys much longer, increasing traffic on side roads and no doubt increasing local pollution.

Luke, local resident

It makes total sense to bring back the left-hand turn on Ritherdon Road. The use of technology at the lights will keep cyclists safe whilst improving traffic flow.

Kirsten, local resident

We feel that this decision was imposed on us without any prior consultation. Any local resident would have said that you shouldn’t just restrict a main junction and push traffic elsewhere.

Robert, local resident

We have a Labour Mayor, a Labour Council and a Labour MP. This delay is clearly a choice, not a coincidence. Send your local representatives a message and support our local campaign to ensure that the Ritherdon Road Left-Hand Turn reinstatement is delivered and with no further delays.
